The Vessel

“The flickering lights of golden paradise are forever gone”

2012

In turn they fled, awed by the majesty of the great vessel

It was as if the dreamed

As they stood transfixed

Their souls forever altered

By the waves of purity

Held in the wake of true rapture

Soon darkness descended like a waterfall

Of black horror and macabre omens

Their faces contorted

Among the flickering lights of golden paradise

Sinking into pools of deepest regret and yearning

The secrets of lost innocence

With his last breath

The foremost witness said:

“Farewell cruel world, this consciousness has been a curse,

I will miss the moments of light and warmth”

This is an early one for me, from the time before prison when I was coming to terms with all the wonders of youth that were over and gone. It’s a story of paradise lost and the horror some of us endure of getting further and further from our spiritual home and the authenticity of our earlier selves. It’s also about coming to terms with all the loves of our lives that are over, never were or never will be.

The flickering lights of golden paradise are forever gone.
